Postpartum Depression & Anxiety

I work with moms and dad who are struggling with negative or sad moods, as well as excessive worry and anxiety.* The transition to parenthood (or transition from one child to two - or three/four/more!) puts tremendous demands on your body, mind, and heart.

20-25% of women experience postpartum depression or anxiety within the first year after giving birth, and many don't realize that they need help. About 10% of fathers also experience negative shifts in mood and anxiety, and are even more unlikely to seek help. When you try to ignore your symptoms, it can lead to conflict and disconnection within your marriage, and struggles to bond with your child.

Postpartum emotional struggles can be caused by a number of factors, including hormone shifts, relationship stress, sleep deprivation, and unprocessed grief or conflicts from your past. Many parents feel confused and unsure if their symptoms are 'normal' or if they need professional help.

If you feel preoccupied with sad feelings, negative thoughts, or overwhelming anxiety, you and your family deserve support and guidance from an expert who knows what you're going through.

You are Not Alone. Things Can Get Better.

Talk therapy has been proven to be extremely effective in help moms and dads find relief and recovery from postpartum mood and anxiety struggles.

I have specialized training and years of experience working with men and women who are struggling with postpartum depression, anxiety, and OCD symptoms. I know first hand, both personally and professionally, how difficult it can be to prioritize your own well-being while taking care of your child, and I know that things can get much, much better.

I work in an integrated way so we can address your sleep needs, relationship dynamics, health and wellness, parenting struggles and all the other factors that play into postpartum struggles.

Together, we will identify the unique physical and emotional stresses that are contributing to your depression or anxiety. We may work collaboratively with your OB, general practitioner, naturopathic doctor, or a psychiatrist to ensure that your physiological and biochemical needs are being addressed.

We will focus on the thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that are challenging and create realistic action plans to help you move from stressed and overwhelmed to resilient and at ease.

You deserve to feel well. Your children deserve resilient, happy parents.

I offer therapy and consultation in my office in Austin, TX or by phone who are outside of the area, or find it challenging to get out of the house with a baby!

Please be in touch to discuss working together. You can send me a message here or book a complimentary phone consultation through my online calendar.
